Vickie: From neglect to a new beginningVickie and her sister Grace were rescued from severe neglect and abuse in Randolph County, NC. In just their first year of life, they endured unimaginable suffering.
Purchased as piglets to be raised for meat, they were confined to a filthy livestock trailer for six months. When their owner realized they were KuneKune potbellied pigs—gentle and not suited for meat production—he abandoned them entirely. The trailer was never cleaned, and they were barely fed or given water. Concerned neighbors did what they could, tossing in food over the side. Eventually, they were moved to a horse stall, but conditions worsened. The stall was sealed off, leaving them in total darkness, standing in freezing, filthy mud. Their only warmth during the cold months was each other. Thanks to the compassion and persistence of a neighbor named Blake, the pigs were finally surrendered and brought to safety at Jenna and Friends. After a vet visit and recovery, they arrived—ironically—in the same trailer they once lived in. A life she deservesToday, Vickie is thriving. She loves belly rubs, sweet treats, and human affection. She's not not just a pig—she's a survivor. And with a new best friend, Rupert, she's now part of a herd that's only going to get bigger as she gains confidence in her new life at our peaceful sanctuary.
