Living in his own feces with no shade from the hot sunPedro came to us from a really bad situation in Virginia. He and his piggy "wife" Petunia were locked in a very small enclosure, literally living in mud and their own feces. They had no clean water or healthy food. They didn’t even have shade from the hot sun. Apparently the owner was planning to give them both to a backyard breeder so they could reproduce and make babies for sale. Fortunately, that plan didn't work out, and we were able to rescue both of these babies. Thank you to our wonderful friend Bridget Munger who stepped up with her Piggy Express and brought them home to North Carolina – first to a foster family where they were neutered and finally to us.
Pedro is introspective and stress-freeToday, Pedro is living his best life. He has a large wooded area to explore, and he never has to worry about clean water, shade, or proper nourishment ever again. Pedro spends a lot of time by himself, but that's just his personality. Some pigs are just more social than others.
We love watching Pedro find spots in the woods to lounge, enjoying his freedom and his herd friends. We just couldn’t love him any more. We are thrilled to give him a life of luxury for the rest of his sweet life! Unfortunately we lost Petunia a few years ago from an intestinal virus (see her story on our In Memoriam page). Pedro misses her every day, and so do we. Read a cute story we wrote about Pedro dancing with his beautiful bride Petunia during the Día de los Muertos celebration. |
