Breeders are greedy, and pigs don't belong in apartmentsMartin's rescue story is not sad, but it does speak to the evils of the breeding industry. Martin was bought from a breeder at only a few weeks of age and given away as a Christmas present. He was too young to be taken away from his mother, and the lady who received him as a gift knew it. She also knew she wasn't set up to care for a pig in her apartment.
When Martin's mom reached out to us, we wanted to help her, but we also had another motive. We had rescued sweet Abigail, our disabled pig, a few months prior, and we thought we might see if she would bond with a baby pig. It was worth a shot, and we just couldn't live with ourselves if we didn't at least try. So, we brought little Martin to Jenna and Friends, and placed him in the pen with Abigail. Well, it didn't take long to realize that things weren't going to work as planned. Abigail completely rejected poor little Martin, and she even started nipping at him pretty badly. So we moved him in with the other pigs, and gave Abigail her space back. Running for joy and living his best life!Today Martin has settled right in to sanctuary life. He's so full of spirit and curiosity about the beautiful world around him. He wakes up full of energy, and if you're up around the time the sun rises, you'll see him running laps around the perimeter of the fence. He has sniffed out every corner of the woods, and he's always trying to share his findings with his buddies Maggie and Roxy. At night, Martin snuggles up tight against Miss Daisy, who has become a mother figure to him. He's such a sweetie pie. We love you, Martin!
