Breeders are greedy, and pigs don't belong in apartmentsMartin’s rescue story isn’t tragic, but it does shine a harsh light on the greed and irresponsibility of the breeding industry.
Martin was bought from a breeder at just a few weeks old—far too young to be taken from his mother—and given away as a Christmas present. The woman who received him knew right away that this was no gift. She understood that a pig, especially one so young, didn’t belong in her apartment. And to her credit, she reached out for help. When she contacted us, we immediately wanted to do what we could. But we also had something else in mind. Just a few months earlier, we had rescued Abigail, a disabled pig with a sweet spirit. We wondered if she might bond with a young pig like Martin—maybe even take him under her wing. It was worth a try, and we knew we’d regret it if we didn’t at least give it a chance. So we welcomed little Martin to Jenna and Friends and introduced him to Abigail. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as we hoped. Abigail wasn’t interested in being a big sister—she actually started nipping at Martin, making it clear she wanted her space. We listened and moved Martin in with the rest of the herd, giving Abigail the peace she needed. Running for joy and living his best life!As expected, Martin adjusted beautifully. Today, he’s a vibrant, joyful young pig who brings energy and light wherever he goes. Every morning at sunrise, you’ll find him running laps around the sanctuary fence, soaking in the fresh air and freedom he was always meant to have.
He’s a curious explorer, always sniffing out hidden corners of the woods and excitedly sharing his discoveries with his pals Maggie, Roxy, and Janice. And when night falls, Martin cuddles up tightly against his buddies, keeping them safe and warm in the straw. Martin is full of love and life—a shining example of what happens when animals are given the chance to just be pigs. We’re so lucky to know him. We love you, Martin! |
