Meet Maggie
Maggie was supposed to stay smallLittle Maggie came to us from a kind-hearted woman in Durham who had been misled by a breeder. She had purchased Maggie as a tiny baby—much too young to be separated from her mother—under the promise that she was a “micro” or “teacup” pig. But it didn’t take long for the truth to become clear: Maggie was growing into a full-sized potbellied pig, and life in a small apartment and a crate was no life at all.
Realizing Maggie deserved so much better, her caregiver reached out for help—and that’s how Maggie found her way to us. Maggie loves her herd!Today, Maggie is a stunning adult pig with a soft, white coat that gleams over her pink skin, dappled with dark spots. Her snout is irresistible, and her gentle grunts? Pure music to our ears. Maggie radiates joy. Every day is an adventure in the woods she calls home, where there’s always something new to explore alongside her piggy companions.
Her bond with Daisy, one of our blind pigs who passed away in early 2025, was nothing short of extraordinary. As Daisy's vision faded over the years, Maggie naturally stepped into the role of her guide. She helped Daisy find her food, water, and favorite spots in the forest. Their relationship was a beautiful testament to the loyalty and deep emotional connections pigs form within their herds. Maggie reminds us every day why it's so important to say NO to breeders and YES to rescues and sanctuaries—places where animals like her are loved, respected, and truly allowed to thrive. |
