Maggie was supposed to stay smallLittle Maggie came to us from a lovely lady in Durham who was fooled by a breeder. She had purchased Maggie as a tiny little baby (much too young to be away from her mama), and was keeping her in a crate in her apartment. It didn't take long for her to realize that Maggie wasn't a micro "teacup" pig, as she had been promised by the breeder. She was growing into a full-sized potbellied pig who didn't belong in an apartment in a cage. She knew Maggie needed a better life.
Maggie loves her herd!Today Maggie is an adult pig with a beautiful coat of white hair, which shines so beautifully on her pink skin with dark spots. That snout is just the cutest thing ever. And her sweet grunts are just music to our ears. Maggie's happiness shows in everything she does. She lives her days in pure wonder at the marvelous world around her, and there's never a dull moment in those beautiful woods. So much to explore with her buddies!
Maggie's bond with blind Daisy is amazing to watch. As Daisy's sight has slowly diminshed over the years, Maggie has become her seeing-eye pig and makes sure she finds her food and water bowls and favorite spots in the woods. Their relationship is a true testiment to the deep bonds between pigs and loyalty to their herds. Maggie is a great reminder for us to just say NO to breeders and YES to supporting rescues and sanctuaries that provide loving homes for animals. |
