Grace's journey: From neglect to loveGrace and her sister Vickie came to us from a heartbreaking situation in Randolph County, NC. In their first year of life, they experienced neglect no animal should ever endure.
Originally purchased as piglets to be raised for meat, they spent their first six months confined to a filthy livestock trailer. Once their owner discovered they were KuneKune potbellied pigs—small, gentle, and not ideal for meat—he simply stopped caring for them. The trailer remained uncleaned, and they were left with barely any food or water. A few kind neighbors tried to help, tossing scraps in when they could. Eventually, the pigs were moved to a horse stall—but things only got worse. The stall was sealed off, leaving them trapped in darkness, surrounded by cold, contaminated mud. With no clean bedding, no heat, and no light, their only comfort was each other. Thankfully, a compassionate neighbor named Blake refused to give up. After months of effort, he convinced the owner to surrender the pigs, and Vickie and Grace were finally brought to safety at Jenna and Friends. After a vet visit and time to heal, they arrived at the sanctuary—in the same trailer that had once imprisoned them. A bright new chapterToday, Grace is thriving. She adores belly rubs, sweet snacks, and gentle human attention. She’s not just a pig—she’s a survivor. And now, with her new best friend Rupert by her side, she’s part of a growing herd and beginning to embrace her life of safety, freedom, and love.
