Gertie was sickly, malnourished, and scaredWe rescued Miss Gertie from a livestock auction at the Durham County Animal Shelter in 2017. She had been picked up by animal control wandering the streets, looking for food and shelter. We don’t know where she came from, but it's likely she escaped from a breeding situation where she was not given enough food on purpose to keep her small and more attractive to potential buyers (the “micro pig” farce). This is why we always encourage folks to rescue pigs from shelters and reputable rescue organizations instead of supporting breeders.
Today she's a happy, curious girlToday, Miss Gertie is a happy, gorgeous pig with beautiful pink skin with black spots. Her white hair is particularly wiry, and she sports a fancy mohawk on her back 12 months out of the year. Gertie’s little tail never stops wagging, and it’s no wonder, because she’s a happy girl! She loves her herd and her patch of woods. She’s a curious girl with a huge sense of wonder at the beautiful world around her.
Gertie never has to worry about being malnourished or lonely ever again. She will be loved and pampered for the rest of her sweet life. |
