Meet Tootsie

A family's loving decision

Tootsie came to us from Benson, North Carolina, in August 2026. Her family loved her deeply, but they were facing circumstances that made caring for her increasingly difficult. Tootsie’s primary caretaker was battling stage 4 lymphoma while also enduring a series of surgeries, and the physical demands of caring for a pig had simply become too much.

Caring for a pig is a big commitment. Every day brings feeding, cleaning and refilling water bowls, maintaining shelters, replacing straw, lugging heavy bags of pig feed, hauling fresh produce, and so much more. Just as important is spending time with them. Pigs are incredibly intelligent and social animals who need companionship, stimulation, and affection.

For Tootsie, that companionship was especially important because she was a solo pig without a herd of her own.

Even with occasional help from family, Tootsie’s caretaker realized she was no longer physically able to give her the time and care she deserved. So she made an incredibly difficult and loving decision: she asked for help.

That’s how Tootsie found her way to us.

Tootsie finds her herd

Today, Tootsie’s life looks very different. She finally has what every pig deserves—a safe home, plenty of attention, and a herd of her own.

She is surrounded by other pigs and humans who are always nearby to keep her company. And then there’s Arthur, one of our resident roosters, who wasted absolutely no time introducing himself and showing the new girl the ropes!

We’re also getting to know all the little things that make Tootsie Tootsie. We’ve discovered that she absolutely adores back scratches and has a serious love affair with strawberries. On stormy evenings, she loves nothing more than burrowing into her cozy straw bed, safe and dry while the rain falls outside.

And her new world extends beyond her pig and human friends. At our peaceful little sanctuary, Tootsie shares her home with the deer, squirrels, birds, and other wild critters who wander through each day. She gets to explore, make friends, soak up the sunshine, and simply enjoy being a pig.

Most importantly, Tootsie will never have to be alone again.

When you sponsor Tootsie, you become part of her story. Your sponsorship helps provide her with nutritious food, fresh produce, straw and bedding, veterinary care, hoof care, shelter maintenance, and everything else she needs to live a safe, happy, and deeply loved life.

Tootsie has found her forever home. Now you can be part of her forever family. ❤️🐷
